experimental fine art
abstract + vibe filmmaking
I was responsible for directing and editing these projects. These are experiments in AI vibe filmmaking, meaning there was no plan, but rather each step was improvised after the one before it. For short projects, I have found this leads to very interesting results. As an animator, working on a client brief within a traditional linear process is professional stock and trade- however I find a lot of value from exploring freely in self-directed experiments without any plan or rigid goal in mind.
By abandoning narrative and representation, I embrace an entirely different set of constraints, freedoms, and challenges versus my commercial projects. This forces me to think totally outside of the box when approaching the tools and develop workflows nobody else would ever think of. Yet, many techniques I have developed through this type of playful exploration have gone on to be useful in commercial projects. In addition, some of my abstract work has been displayed in online galleries and in real life shows and art museums, also projected as part of an installation for multiple years at Burning Man back when that was still kind of cool (2004-2006).
I have yet to commercialize any of this material.
